City of Anna
From the late 1800's until the end of the 20th century, Anna was a small, rural community. The town experienced a steady, but very limited growth between 1950-2000, but still remained less than 1500 population by the year 2000.
Since early 2002, the City has experienced phenomenal growth. On a percentage basis, Anna has been the fastest growing city in the North Central Texas region over the past four years. The City's population has gone from 1,225 in 2000 to an estimated 8,300 in 2009. Recent population trends are summarized below:

Population growth is expected to continue at about the same pace for the next several years, adding about 400-500 residential units per year.
The City is now beginning to experience some retail and commercial development. A 13,000 square foot retail center, two 10,000 square foot retail centers and a four building complex are among the few developments in progress. The possibility of a clinic housing 3-4 physicians is also on the horizon.
Probably the biggest non-residential project is the Anna Center, a 25 acre tract. The anchor tenant of this project being a 45,000 square foot Brookshire's Grocery store.
