City of Little Elm
“The Town with a Lake Attitude”
Little Elm is a city in Denton County, Texas, United States and a part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The population was 3,646 at the 2000 census. Current estimates show the population to be 21,800, making Little Elm one of the fastest growing municipalities in Texas since 2000 in terms of percentage.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3,646 people, 1,210 households, and 965 families residing in the town. The population density was 751.5 people per square mile (290.3/km²). There were 1,302 housing units at an average density of 268.4/sq mi (103.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 79.24% White, 2.96% African American, 0.63% Native American, 0.74% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 14.15% from other races, and 2.22% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 22.96% of the population.
There were 1,210 households out of which 47.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.1% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.2% were non-families. 15.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.01 and the average family size was 3.34.
In the city the population was spread out with 32.5% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 38.4% from 25 to 44, 15.2% from 45 to 64, and 4.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 104.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $50,281, and the median income for a family was $51,803. Males had a median income of $35,533 versus $26,604 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,362. About 8.8% of families and 12.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.0% of those under age 18 and 5.6% of those age 65 or over.
The population of Little Elm grew by an estimated 498% between 2000 and 2007, ballooning from 3,646 to 21,793 making the city one of the fastest growing in not only the state of Texas but also the United States.
